I was diagnosed with a rectovaginal fistula and had tried to have it repaired by a colorectal surgeon, however the surgery was not successful. For two years I tried to find a doctor that could fix me. I went to a GYN/Oncology, who then sent me to a pelvic reconstruction surgeon in Virginia. When I was seeing the doctor in Virginia, I asked him, "if this was your wife, where would you send her?" His answer was - Cleveland Clinic. By this time I had already researched Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore on the internet and actually made the decision to call them before taking another doctor's advice.

During my consultation with Dr. Moore, he made sense. Dr. Moore showed my via diagrams and visuals how the procedure would be done and it was easy for me to visualize the surgery.

Dr. Moore is Marvelous! Before my surgery I had pain with sitting, going to the restroom was impossible and having intercourse made my pain worse. TOT Sling Revision 

First of all, I have referred at least two people to Dr. Miklos since my surgery due to the care I received from the staff. I don't have the same pain that I had prior to the removal of the mesh. I wish we were closer, I would stand on the street corners and advertise for him.

I, too, thought I was the only one going through the pain and discomfort. I had been to the surgeon that placed the mesh and he told me it was scar tissue but before he would address that he wanted me to get a complete physical and a colonoscopy. I saw my urogynocologist and when he did his exam and touched an extremely painful area, he said "I think that it's your mesh" however he never, offered to address it or suggest what I should do to relieve my pain and dicomfort. Finally, I stumbled upon Dr.Miklos and Moore's site. The pain had gotten so severe it was impacting my ability to do my job, as I am required to travel frequently. Sitting in the car for more than an hour cause unbearable pain. I couldn't get comfortable in any position and the pain would wake me up in the middle of the night. I was told by a Urologist and Gynecologist that I required these surgeries, but the problem was there was only 1 Urogynecologist in my city that could performed them and by an abdominal incision. I was then faced with a 6 month wait to see the Dr and then a wait time of up to 3 months or more for the surgery, this was unacceptable to me as I was very uncomfortable and suffering from backache and groin pain. I do not mind being on a waiting list but this was too long, I felt there was no alternative but to seek treatment elsewhere, as we do not have private health care in my Country.

I then turned to the Internet and "Googled" the surgery that I required and Miklos and Moore was the first website to be displayed. The website was very informative, so I decided to give them a call. The rest is history as I was operated on within 4 weeks from the date of the first contact with the office. I found that the office staff were very informative and answered all questions. Everything was arranged very quickly and all pre and post op instructions were given clearly in a booklet before even going to the office. I had no surprises either financially or otherwise, everything was as laid out before hand.

When I met Dr. Moore for the first time I knew I had made the right decision to travel to Atlanta for the surgery, as Dr. Moore, from the very first handshake instilled confidence in me that he was the right Dr to perform these procedures. Dr. Moore spent over 1-1/2 hours with me and my daughter explaining the procedures, also using diagrams to do so. I have never had a Dr. give me so much information before, or not try to leave the room after 15mins. Dr. Moore did not make us feel inadequate when answering what were probably to him trivial questions, we were always treated with respect.

I had the surgery and all previous pain disappeared right away, The surgery for me was painless as I never needed or took any pain medication. I must admit I did expect more backache which did not materialize. I stayed in Atlanta for 1 week before travelling home. It is now 4 months since I had the surgery and I am back to work full time and at the gym (with restrictions). I have always been a very active person but I did listen to all the instructions and did follow them religiously for 10 weeks to give myself time to heal.

So Dr. Moore from the bottom of my heart I THANK YOU for taking me on as a patient and who would not want to be operated on by such a skilled surgeon who with his partner Dr. Miklos has performed over 1200+ of these surgeries with a 98% success rate.

My infection started 3 years ago after my hysterecotmy. The original surgeon placed the mesh after removing my uterus. My pain started instantly, but initially I thought the pain was normal pain related to having a major surgery. 3 years later and mulitple doctors later, I realized that the pain was not going away. Many doctors told me that the pain could not be resolved, that removing the mesh would be a complicated and difficult surgery. I didn't know where to go or who to call. I did some research on the internet and came across Dr. Moore and Dr. Miklos' site. I read about their success with mesh removal and gave them a call.

My initial converstaion was with Carrie, who was very informative and empathetic towards what I was going through.She told me that what I was experiencing should not be considered normal and that I needed to come see Dr. Moore. After meeting with Dr. Moore, I knew I was in the right place. He spent so much time with me and went over everything. In the spring of this year I started training for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day 60 mile walk. I had spent the past 15 years crossing my legs before every sneeze and cough and was always careful not to run and jump, but I discovered I couldn't even walk distances without leaking. It's a MIRACLE! I feel so good. I have so much more energy now. I want to go do things where before I wanted to stay home because I had to wear those bulky pads. I had done a lot of research on the internet and was looking at doctors in NY, Beverly Hills, Virginia, Atlanta and Miami. When I called Atlanta Urogynecology Associates, I easily spent 45 minutes on the phone asking a lot of questions about Dr. Miklos and the procedure itself. What sealed the deal for me was the phone consultation I had with Dr. Miklos before I had even decided I was coming to Atlanta to have this surgery done. The entire time we spoke, I felt that he was really listening to me and my concerns and not once did I feel like I was being sold or talked into something I did not want. Dr. Miklos even referred me to see a Urogynecologist in Virginia to have some initial concerns checked out before spending the money to come to Atlanta. After I saw the doctor in Virigina and then called the other offices in NY and Beverly Hills, I kept coming back to my phone consultation with Dr. Miklos and the ease of our conversation. Bedside manner is so important to me and between Dr. Miklos and his entire staff, I felt comfortable every time I called. This I did not feel with the other offices I called in Beverly Hills and New York.

Dr. Moore saved my life.

I had my original surgery a few years ago for prolapse and incontinence. After my surgery, I started having symptoms and complications that seem to only get worse with time. I had chronic back pain that for days would put me down. I suffered from recurrent bladder infections and kidney infections that would cause a fever of 104. I went to so many doctors that could not diagnose my pain. I Had MRIs done to look at my back and nothing was found. Even my gynecologist that inserted my original mesh said it was not the mesh causing my problems. But after 2 years, I said enough was enough. I started to Google recurring bladder infections and Dr. Miklos and Moore's website was the 1st to come up. I clicked on their mesh complication website and started to read the different case studies and patient testimonials. I realized then that I was not alone, that my symptoms were similar to the ladies that shared their stories. I just wanted to thank Dr Miklos and his staff for giving me a new lease on life. I knew that I had some issues and came to find Dr Miklos via the internet. I am fairly new to the area and am still amazed by the fact that I had moved to the same city where the premier urogynecological physician was located.
After my initial consultation with Dr Miklos, I was diagnosed with a vaginal canal prolapse, uterine prolapse, rectocele and cystocele. He spent a long time with me reviewing the diagnosis and the procedures to correct the problems. He was very patient and wasn't pushy. Needless to say, I was numb as I didn't think my issues were that extensive.

I went home with my materials and did more research. I decided on the surgery. I was still very nervous and scared. I have no lower back or hip pain! I have had debilitating back and hip pain for 5 years or so. The pain was chronic to the point where I couldn't sleep on my right side. If I sat too long, I had trouble getting out of a chair and would walk with a limp. I even gave up running. I was seeing a chiropractor to try to help with the pain. I gave birth in January 2010 and suffered a 4th degree tear that was not properly repaired. Ten days later I went to the hospital after having complications. I was told there was a defect and that it needed to be repaired right away. It was repaired again and I went home. Turns out it was too soon after the initial repair to have that done, my tissue was too swollen. Three days later, I was devastated after an experience using the restroom and went back to the hospital and learned I had a rectovaginal fistula. It was such a horrific and depressing experience. It was a time when my husband and I were supposed to be full of joy, celebrating the birth of our wonderful son. I felt as though there was no hope and did not want another surgery.

My husband and I started doing research and were determined to find the best doctors no matter where we had to go. We learned of Dr. Moore and Dr. Miklos after doing research on extensive fistula repair. We learned they had actually performed skin grafts on some patients during fistula repairs at Brigham Women's Hospital in Boston, (a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School). We then searched where we could find these master surgeons and turned out they had an office in Atlanta. We called and talked with Rhonda, who from the beginning was compassionate, took the time to understand our situation, and assured us that we were at the right place and that all would be ok.

During our consultation with Dr. Moore, he explained what needed to be done and was very optimistic of the outcome. He was very thorough and wanted us to have some more tests done when we went back to North Carolina to make sure that everything was transparent. At Dr. Moore's urging we went and had an ultrasound done. We learned of a crucial factor that had to be addressed during the surgery.

I had my surgery performed by Dr. Moore in September 2010 and thank God I am completely well. He is truly a master surgeon who really cares for his patients. Dr. Moore is literally one of the best doctors in the world and unlike most, will take the time to talk with you, answer any concerns, and just be down to earth. His nurses are extremely helpful and friendly as everyone we have met at this practice. My husband and I are forever grateful.

I had an open abdominal hysterectomy in January 2010. A few days later, I found I was always leaking and never dried. Upon CT scan in May, I was confirmed to have a vesicovaginal fistula. To my horror, all doctors I saw in Hong Kong suggested another open abdominal surgery for repair. I refused and searched on the internet for doctors who might be able to offer a less invasive approach.

The internet led me to Atlanta Urogynecology Associates. The laparoscopic operation videoed by Dr. Miklos brought me great interest. I contacted AUA and asked several questions on how my disease could be cured. Dr. Moore replied me with 5 miles of details on the laparoscopic procedure, how it would be done, how many small openings I will have, where the openings are, what hospital, how long I need to be in area, why laparoscopic is better than open surgery, and the after operation care, etc. He gave me great confidence that he is the doctor for me! Thus I confirmed the surgery with him. His assistants were also professional and helpful in the follow up. They advised me what test I needed to do and take to AUA. I was worry-free as they helped arrange the hospital and hotel.

From Hong Kong to Atlanta, the laparoscopic surgery took place in August. The operation went smoothly. There was no complication, no pain. It was as exactly as Dr. Moore described prior to the surgery. I was able to walk around the Perimeter Mall 3 days after the surgery. By end August after removing all devices, I flew back to Hong Kong. By then I was completely cured and returned to normalcy! I felt like a new born person. I was free at last of pads. It was a great relief, a feeling of joy and thanks!

After struggling with mesh complications from my TVT sling placed on 8/23/07, I gave up on finding any relief from the medical community in Utah. I spent a small fortune on chiropracters, shaman, rolfers and other alternative therapies which helped me cope with the pain better.

Eventually the pain and urinary obstruction became more than something I could learn to live with and I needed help. After spending a fortune on specialists, MRI's, ultrasounds, cat scans and urodynamic testing I realized I needed to look elswhere for someone that understands mesh complications and has extensive experience in addressing these issues.

I had the pleasure of evaluating [a patient] on 12/9/08 for complaints of urinary incontinence, prolapse, and sexual dysfunction. She was previously evaluated at… Massachusetts General Hospital and Dr. Miklos at Atlanta Urogynecology Associates. On my evaluation, she was noted to have prolapse and was associated sexual dysfunction. Simple CMG was deferred but she has demonstrated stress incontinence on previous evaluation. I had a lengthy discussion with her regarding treatment options including surgical correction.

Based on my evaluation of the patient and my knowledge of the other providers she has seen, I would think she would best be served by continuing treatment with Dr. Miklos. I am familiar with his work and have had the opportunity to refer several patients to him with similar complaints. Thank you so much for the very detailed reply and taking the time to go so in depth as to your procedures and experience. It is scary, especially because I'm a CVICU recovery nurse at the busiest hospital in the state and I take care of the most critical care recoveries. To me, the surgeon's outcomes, experience, number of surgeries performed and teamwork from staff including recovery and anesthesia is what is most important. I love the fact that you are so specialized and concentrate only on women and these procedures and look at quality repair of the whole foundation uterus, bladder, vagina etc.. I am writing this brief response to an issue regarding the treatment of labial hypertrophy. My daughter who last year approached me with a problem was affected by this entity. It was extremely difficult emotionally and physically for my daughter on many fronts. First, she was extremely uncomfortable due to chronic irritation and chafing in the area. This required changing of her underwear quite frequently, at times resorting to pads to try to keep the areas from rubbing. It was also difficult for her to approach me regarding this issue. I too, despite being a dermatologist was uncomfortable in discussing this but I knew I could not use the easy way out and say "talk to your mom." After seeing the discomfort that my daughter was experiencing, we both decided that something needed to be done. We had no success with the recommendations provided by the area gynecologists so I took it upon myself both as a physician and father to pursue further treatment. My daughter too felt that surgical intervention was needed. We saw Dr. Moore in Atlanta for an evaluation and my daughter was very comfortable with his approach and bedside manner. I was also pleased with his caring attitude and professionalism. The surgery was scheduled and the worse time in my life was saying "I love you" to her in the O.R. just before she was anaesthetized. The waiting lasted a lifetime but she did extremely well. Post-operatively, Dr Moore was always available and went above and beyond and actually visited us at the hotel we were staying at just to make sure all was going well. I cannot stress enough the need for surgical intervention in these young women who must live with the physical and psychological stigmata of labial hypertrophy. Today my daughter is attending college at a prestigious University in Nashville - we both share the same feeling about the surgery: it had to be done. We also share the greatest respect for Dr. Moore and his staff for treating us with dignity and the utmost care.

You also scheduled my surgery on one of your slow days, so that you could take extra time if needed, and this also did not go unnoticed.

In your practice, the same person rarely answers the phone when I call, and no matter who it is, once I identify myself, that person ALWAYS took the time to address me by name and ask how I was doing. This is UNHEARD of in practices today. Your staff always made me feel special, ALWAYS called the next day if I had any problem to follow-up and see how I was doing, and never made me feel rushed to get me off the phone.

Well, the procedure I had was called a labiaplasty, which is reduction of the labia minora, or the inner lips. I really liked Dr. Miklos and all of the nurses, they were all SO nice, and they made me more comfortable in dealing with my problem.

Surgery day was a little nerve racking, but after recovering for a few hours I was perfectly fine to go home. When I saw the before and after pictures, I was amazed at the difference!

Dr. Miklos and his staff were so kind, gentle, and thorough. After the procedure was done, and after I had healed, it was much more comfortable to walk around and my labia did not give me any problems, such as sticking to my undies, or pulling. Now I never have to deal with enlarged, uncomfortable labia minora ever again!

I decided to have labiaplasty and a hoodectomy. I cannot stress how important it was to me to choose the right surgeon and one who specialized in this particular procedure. After much research, I chose Dr. Miklos because of his excellent reputation and that he is considered by his peers to be one of the premier surgeons in his respective field. Moreover, when I consulted with Dr. Miklos, he immediately eased my anxiety by explaining the procedures in detail and making me feel that being in his office (discussing my options) was the most natural thing in the world.

The staff in the office and the hospital were also fantastic, from the nurses to the receptionist, they answered all my questions and provided me with loads of information. For me, recovery from the surgery was a breeze. It was almost painless (only took Tylenol post-surgery) and there were no visible stitches. Within six weeks, I was completely healed and the appearance fully met my expectations. In fact, my aesthetician, who also happens to wax, said Dr. Miklos did an amazing job and that she wanted to refer some of her other clients to him.

Looking back, I should have had this done years ago and find it hard to believe that I delayed surgery because I was too uncomfortable talking to a surgeon about it. All I can say is that this was great decision for me, mainly because it has made me feel much more confident about my body and was a huge boost to my sexuality. I would encourage anyone who is not happy with their appearance to see Dr. Miklos. I have no doubt that they will be as happy as I am with Dr. Miklos and the end result.

Following childbirth I suffered from extensive vaginal relaxation. Sex was very painful and I could not hold a tampon in place. Furthermore, due to the fact that my bladder had also moved downwards, I needed to urinate frequently and so I had to stop most of my physical activities, running in particular. I could not even do any abdominal exercises as I felt that something was not in place and it was very uncomfortable. The worst thing was that I was told that nothing was wrong, that this was a natural consequence of giving birth. I assumed that this would be accurate after having six children, but I'd only had one! The solution they offered me (only because I kept insisting) was to fix the bladder problem by operating vaginally. That was the only problem they could diagnose and the rest, they assumed I was simply making a fuss about.

At 33 and having put up with this situation for 6 years not feeling comfortable and most of all feeling that they did not understand my frustrations, I tried research on the internet, even though I had no idea that I would actually find a surgeon that could identify and solve my problems. A year later, I found out about Dr. Moore and Dr. Miklos through their website. After seeing Dr. Moore in Atlanta, I instantly knew that I was in the right place. Dr. Moore identified my condition which was then further analyzed under anesthesia. He addressed all problems laparoscopically, and It turned out that there were quite a few issues. In my country I have been told over and over again that a laparoscopic procedure to correct my defects was impossible. I even told them what Dr. Moore had told me and how he would carry out the surgery and they were still against it and not believing it could be done.

Through laparoscopy Dr. Moore re-attached my uterus back in place using a mesh; he pulled my bladder back in position, corrected the paravaginal defects and tightened all my muscles. The scars are minimal and barely visible. I feel as though I never gave birth. My sex life is back to normal (actually better than before since I had a retroverted uterus even pre-childbirth and this contributed to the pain). I am back running, cycling, swimming and yoga without any sort of problems. Recovery was three months and now I am building up slowly. Dr. Moore was incredible at understanding my problems and concerns and the relief at knowing that my problems could be corrected is huge. My emails (pre and post op) were always answered immediately, even though I live on the other side of the world. The administration at the clinic were great with helping me out with appointments, hotels, etc.. Nina the nurse was fantastic. I stayed in Atlanta for two weeks in total and the care I got was amazing. All sutures dissolved naturally. I did not even have to travel back for checkups. It was all perfect. I can't thank Dr. Moore enough for giving me my body and my life back!

Dr. Moore is an excellent doctor. I had my first visit with him in January '09 after going from doctor to doctor to find the source of the continual pain that I had been in for a while. During my first visit to your office, I felt that I was in competent and professional hands. The staff was very informative, supportive and human in their handling of my case. I felt better about my visit to your office than I had in more than 2.5 years. Prior to this, I had known only incredible pain despite being healthy otherwise.

The staff was very competent explaining the battery of tests and the necessity of having a clear picture of my condition in order to arrive at the proper diagnosis. The testing process seemed exhaustive and multi-layered, but in the end provided the answer I sought to my condition.

On my final visit to Dr. Moore, prior to my decision to proceed to surgery, Dr. Moore spent more than an hour and a half explaining the current condition and what possible surgical procedure might be in order. Both my husband and I were very confident and impressed with Dr. Moore after his descriptions, review of test results and detailed overview of the anticipated surgery.

My surgery, recovery and follow-up visits were as expected with no surprises. After 2.5 years of pain, 4 painful surgeries and overwhelming concern, I was feeling more confident and much better within two weeks of surgery. I can only thank Dr. Moore and the staff he has assembled. They did what they promised and have allowed me to return to a normal life. Over the last 20 years, I had discussed with several physicians the possibility of having my redundant labia minora and prepuce reduced. The various opinions over that period of time were that both were "within normal limits", I should "use more lube," "it's a very bloody procedure and causes scarring," and that "with menopause, the tissue would eventually atrophy." None of those answers satisfied me. I lived daily with the self-consciousness and embarrassment of my enlarged labia and prepuce both from a functional and aesthetic standpoint. Functionally, during intercourse, the labia would be pulled and pinched, sometimes inverting on themselves, making them sore. If I was in a hurry in the bathroom, and didn't catch the stray droplets of urine caught in the folds they would end up in my underwear. I felt there was nothing normal about my labia and prepuce. When I was younger, I did not want any of my sexual partners to even look at my vagina, out of fear of being judged or labeled. I would try to keep the lights off and their heads above the level of my navel.

I was aware of Dr. Miklos and his reputation in the physician community. He is renowned and highly thought of by his colleagues. All I ever heard were good things. That was apparent when I had my initial consultation with him. He made me feel completely at ease, and I was able to have an open and frank discussion with him. I appreciated the time he spent talking with me and answering my questions. I never felt condescended to. The staff was wonderful and great at helping me navigate through the entire process from beginning to end. When I see the dramatic results on myself, the before and after pictures on the website with their corresponding testimonial, I couldn't help thinking that, even though I have wanted to have this surgery done for the last 20 years, I had it done at exactly the right time, with a very gifted surgeon. I have always been ashamed of how my vagina looked. I didn't think anything could be done to make it look normal. The excess skin made me miserable. I couldn't wear certain clothing or even sit in a comfortable position without the excess skin pinching or rubbing together. It even made intercourse very awkward. Listen up!!

Ladies, with Labia Reduction/Revisions becoming more popular, keep in mind that not all doctors know what they are doing, and can ruin you for life. Please, be careful when choosing a doctor. Remember, you can't put back what is gone. I have experienced this first hand, and would not want anyone to encounter the devastation that I have suffered.

Another doctor (plastic surgeon) severely damaged me, cutting off most of my labia, leaving me disfigured and physically impaired with muscle/nerve damage. I will never be the same again. I was a hopeless, 35 year old woman, and thought I was ruined for life. I saw well over ten doctors, and only 3 out of 10 were even willing to attempt the revision/corrective surgery.

Dr. Miklos not only took his personal time to talk with me, but through his confidence he gave me hope. I really appreciate you allowing me to observe you and Rob (Dr. Moore) perform pelvic surgery. Thank you for taking time to explain your techniques, even tough it cut in to your "length of surgery" time. The reasons for "why" you do what you do based on clinical data and common sense were very informative. Your pearls and advice will certainly help my pelvic surgery technique. Being with you and Rob (Dr. Moore) in the OR was a very inspiring experience - to the point that I plan to start doing laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy procedures. It is always exciting to see a laparoscopically skilled surgeon performing cutting-edge procedures. In fact your laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy is so much smoother and faster than any other procedure I've seen by Dr. XXXXX (an internationally renowned laparoscopic surgeon ) do. It's true that one must first be skilled at an abdominal procedure, in terms of anatomy and technique, prior to attempting it laparoscopically.

By the way, the idea of lateral posterior vaginal wall defects is revolutionary and anatomically sound. I hope to help more women have better results by not only using the dermal graft but also by improving my technique. Thank you once again, and I hope to see you at a urogyn meeting in the future.
